Dr. Abdus Samad Memorial Hospital
Dr. Abdus Samad Memorial Hospital that manages the charitable activities and the wellbeing for any person or child that may come at its door stop in the area of Liaquatabad. This Institution was formed for the benefit of people living under the poverty line and the local community of Karachi with the view that, children should not be born at homes but at a decent mother and child hospital, as in the 1950’s Liaquatabad was barren land and the concepts and medical practices at the time were very old.
Today, the hospital oversees general OPD patients to a level of 120,000 a year and a volume of almost 10,000 patients a month at a meagre cost of Rs.30/patient for which consultation and medicine for 3 days is provided, free of cost and a maternity with patients to a level of 5000 patients/month and in Rs.3300/ a normal delivery is conducted by well – trained RMO’s and Rs.6300/ for a normal delivery by reputed consultants.
These figures remain to be the lowest of the area to date and if a patient cannot manage than Zakat is provided which is managed and controlled by Dar ul Uloom, Korangi under their designated shariah advisor. As per practice, at the time, the adjoining shops located on the front were given away to help small income businesses which has now developed into the furniture market for the area. All funds till to date, are ploughed back to general OPD patients and into the services and requirements of the hospital, to keep its equipment in line with modern levels. Two laboratories mainly the Tahir Lab and the Sindh Lab both well reputed laboratories of Karachi assist the hospital in maintaining best practices.
